Last week teams across the Lurgan and Craigavon area were playing in the different sections of Northern Ireland’s football pyramid.

For Gary Hamilton’s Glenavon, they return to league action this Friday against Portadown but last weekend they hosted a inter-squad friendly.

A team playing in navy and one in orange, it was a chance for the Lurgan Blues boss to assess his options for the last time before the new campaign.

Oxford Sunnyside hosted Crewe United on Saturday.

The home team battled for an impressive 1-0 win over the visitors with the goal coming from their marksman Warner Mullen from the spot.

Next up for the Lurgan outfit is a trip to Portadown to face St Mary’s on Saturday.

Originally Sunnyside were meant to play Hanover on Tuesday night but due to a Covid case in the Hanover camp the game was postponed.

It was a memorable weekend for Craigavon City as they progress to the next round of the Irish Cup after defeating Malachians 2-1.

City turn their heads to Intermediate B action this Saturday as they take on a Dromore Amateurs side that have recruited well in the off season.

Lurgan Town battled hard in their Irish Cup clash with the PSNI but were beaten in the end 3-1.

The Premier Intermediate side had to work for their victory and Town can take confidence from their performance in to Saturday’s league game against AFC Craigavon.

AFC Craigavon fell to 1-0 defeat at the hands of ex Irish League star Tony Bell’s Seagoe.

They can put things right this weekend as they make the short journey to Lurgan Town.

Lurgan Celtic got their Division 3 season underway was a resounding win over FC United Lisburn.

Celtic strolled the match to a 4-2 win with United clawing back two late consolation goals.

Man of the match on the day for the Hoops was Gary Gilmore who scored a brace.

Hill Street begin their Division 1 campaign on Saturday making the journey to Caledon Rovers.

Goodyear FC start their season away to United LT at the weekend.
