The game was abandoned after former Glenavon defender Lee McNulty went off injured.
Glenavon A-A Carrick Rangers
Glenavon's return to Mourneview Park ended with both teams being taken off the pitch following a serious injury to former Lurgan Blues defender Lee McNulty.
However, it had already been a bad day at the office for the hosts, who were trailing 4-0 at the time of the abandonment.
The visitors scored with what was the first real chance of the game, Daniel Kelly heading Carrick in front on 20 minutes from Stewart Nixon's free kick.
And Nixon should have added a second three minutes later when he took advantage of Matthew Snoddy's poor attempt at a clearance, only for his effort to come back off the crossbar.
Danny Purkis had a great chance to pull Glenavon level on 26 minutes when he was left free to head Peter Campbell's corner, but his header was narrowly wide of the mark.
Carrick doubled their lead four minutes before the break. Ben Tilney's pass forward was flicked forward into the path of Lloyd Anderson, who took advantage and slotted past Declan Brown.
Not long after the restart Carrick could have added a third when a shot out of nothing from Reece Glendenning - son of former Glenavon full back Mark - rattled the post.
Substitute Corey McMullan scored a spectacular third for Stuart King's side with a shot from outside the box which looped over the top of Brown.
Goal number four came by way of Glenavon not dealing with a corner kick - Kelly was on hand to score his second of the day.
However, the game was abandoned following a lengthy break in play when former Glenavon defender Lee McNulty went down with a with a serious leg injury. Both teams were taken off the pitch while the defender received treatment.
