Footballing families to go head-to-head in Irish Cup

It's hard to argue with the football pedigree of Lurgan cousins Oisin Smyth and Ruairi McDonald.

Their uncle, big Pat McGibbon who had a spell at Manchester United and a long career in the Irish League both as a manager and a player, will be keeping a close eye on one particular Irish Cup game in early February.

It's the meeting of Annagh United, who beat the Welders in the opening round, and Dungannon Swifts who overcame Knockbreda.

Young McDonald, who grabbed Annagh's opener in the win over the Welders and encouraged a late strike from Niall Henderson, will no doubt be doubly motivated when he faces his cousin Oisin at Stagmore Park next month.

Oisin's dad, Liam Smyth, has a decent pedigree himself, having been on the books of Leeds when the famous Eric Cantona was at the club.

The conversations in the extended McGibbon household will be interesting over the coming weeks. But who will have the final say? Keep an eye out for more on the story.
