Upper Bann MP, Carla Lockhart
Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has written to the Health Minister Robin Swann to seek clarity on the process schools must follow if a pupil tests positive for COVID-19.
Carla Lockhart said:
“It is fantastic to have the full return of pupils to face to face education in schools. It is the best arena for learning and personal development, and we want to ensure our schools remain open now with no question of further closures. I also want to commend our wonderful compliment of teaching and non-teaching staff who throughout the pandemic have been superb in assisting children with their learning both in school and online.
"However, key to the continuation on learning in the school setting is clarity and correct processes if a pupil tests positive for COVID-19. This week I have been contacted by several parents who have had children attend classes where a pupil has unfortunately tested positive. They have expressed concern that schools have not been issued clear advice on the procedure to follow. This leaves school leaders in a very difficult situation.
"Absolute clarity is needed, and I have written to the Health Minister Robin Swann asking him to set out in the clearest possible way the guidance for schools, pupils and parents who find themselves in this situation. It is likely most schools will face this during the coming weeks and months. Now is the time to get the policy right.”
