Upper Bann MP Carla Lockhart has welcomed the announcement from Sport NI that a new capital grant scheme is now open to applications. The Building Better Sports Facilities offers up to £25,000 to successful applicants.

Carla Lockhart said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for local sports clubs and one that I have been calling for in response to the needs of clubs I have met over recent months.

"Capital funding for sports can be hard to obtain, and yet we need to continue to see local sports facilities evolve, at a bare minimum to keep up to date with the latest health and safety requirements, but ideally to improve for better experiences for competitors and spectators.

"The Sport NI Building Better Sports Facilities programme offers clubs in Upper Bann the chance to apply for up to £25,000. This can be used for a range of improvements, including General improvement works, including improvements/ modifications to Changing and toilets; Facilities maintenance equipment; Storage facilities & containers; Access & egress projects, including improvements to:  Entrances/Exits (internal or external); Car parks; Pathways; and Fencing. Environmental sustainability projects, including improvements to: Heating systems; Plumbing; Power supply;  Ventilation; and Insulation, and works to enable your facility to operate more efficiently within Covid-19 guidelines.

"I want to see as much of this funding come to this area as possible, and would encourage local clubs to apply. If any organisation requires further information, please get in touch and I would be happy to advise on the process.”
