A Newtownabbey man has appeared in court charged with four counts of rape of a child under the age of 13.

Jordan Hutchinson, (26), of East Way, appeared at Craigavon Courthouse on Wednesday, June 8 for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry – the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.

The defendant is alleged to have raped a child under the age of 13 on four separate occasions between the dates of June 26, 2011, to June 28, 2013.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence counsel made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Bernie Kelly, satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer, released the defendant on court bail of £500 with a number of stringent conditions to appear for arraignment at Craigavon Courthouse on September 9.
