A 31-year-old man, who had over 70 pregablin tablets in his possession, has been jailed for two months.

Appearing via video-link, Dominic McGrath, of no fixed abode, appeared at Craigavon Courthouse sitting on Wednesday, June 8.

The court heard that on June 2 this year, police observed the defendant and another male on North Street, Lurgan, with both males being unsteady on their feet and acting suspiciously.

Both males entered a nearby shop but when they exited, they both looked around the corner to see if the police were still there and started to walk away.

A search was carried out and officers located a box of tablets concealed in the defendant’s crotch area with a total of 70 suspected pregablin tablets.

A further search was carried out on the defendant at Lurgan Station which resulted in two further pregablin tablets located in his wallet, with McGrath unable to provide any proof of prescription.

In his defence, the court was told that McGrath had just been released from prison when he was stopped by police and he’s had a trouble upbringing and an issue with drugs.

It was stated that he was granted bail on Saturday morning following his arrest but refused to give an address to police because of a mistrust of the police and the judicial system.

District Judge Bernie Kelly imposed a two month custodial sentence for the offence, as well granting a destruction order for the drug.
