A Portadown man, who “used his head as a weapon” to assault an Asda driver and caused criminal damage to a delivery van, has been handed a four month custodial sentence.

The case of Rodger Finn, (44), of Ulsterville Park, was heard at Craigavon Courthouse sitting on Friday, September 3.

The court heard that on July 23, 2019, an Asda delivery driver spotted a male in the middle of the road and moved to avoid a collision.

However, the defendant ran after the injured party and headbutted him before punching the delivery van which caused minor damage.

In his defence, the court was told that Finn “expresses a great amount of regret” and accepts that drink was a problem in relation to the offence.

District Judge Bernie Kelly insisted that employees should go to work “free of risk and free of the risk of being assaulted.”

She imposed a two month custodial sentence for the assault and a four month custodial sentence for criminal damage.

The sentences are to run concurrently.
