Sinn Féin Councillor Catherine Nelson has welcomed correspondence from Health Minister, Robin Swann, outlining some relaxation of maternity restrictions.

She said, "The Minister has said that birthing partners can attend for one hour post induction but can now return sooner - when the woman feels the need for support due to the onset of contractions.

"They no longer need to wait until the mother is moved to the delivery suite.

"The partner can then remain for the birth and until mother and baby are transferred to the maternity ward.

"I thank the Minister and the Trust for this move which will be a huge relief for many. I will continue to advocate for fellow mothers."
