An Aghagallon man, who failed to declare his previous driving convictions and therefore no insurance, has been disqualified from the roads for a year.

The case of Samuel McCaughey, (30), of Lagan Gate, was heard at Craigavon Courthouse sitting on Friday, October 15.

The court heard that on January 17 this year, the defendant was detected driving on the North Road, Lurgan, without insurance.

Subsequent checks showed that McCaughey made a false statement to obtain insurance on a date between March 1 to March 31, 2020.

In his defence, the court was told that a friend filled out McCaughey’s insurance policy on his behalf and that it was cancelled due to him not declaring his previous convictions.

District Judge Bernie Kelly imposed a £350 fine and six month disqualification for driving without insurance and a £350 fine and six month disqualification for false declaration to obtain certificate of insurance.
