Sinn Féin MLA John O'Dowd has said hospital parking should be free for all and encouraged people to get behind a Sinn Féin Assembly Bill to scrap parking fees at hospitals.

The Upper Bann MLA said: “Hospital car-parking must be free and accessible to all.

“Sinn Féin’s Assembly Bill will scrap hospital parking charges and make it free for health workers, patients and their families.

“Parking charges at hospitals are an unfair tax on workers with some paying up to £60 per-week for parking – this is unacceptable and needs to change.

“Making parking free and accessible will put money back in the pockets of health workers.

“Patients shouldn’t have to pay parking when receiving treatment and neither should their families when visiting.

“It is time to bin this unfair tax on workers and families.

“This legislation is currently making progress in the Assembly and I would encourage people to contact your local MLA and ask them to support it.”
