Lurgan Town faced Dungannon Colts for the first time this season. Having drawn their opening two games of 2022, the U14’s needed three points to keep pace with other teams at the top of the league.

A controlled opening to the game saw limited chances for either side. Lurgan Town had half chances from in swinging corners, but on each occasion the Dungannon defence scrambled the ball away to safety.

Lurgan Town opened the scoring on 16 minutes as link up play between Ben Wells and Corey Hylands saw Hylands cross the ball in from close to the bye line and the ball deflected off the Dungannon defender for an own goal.

The rest of the first-half brought no more chances for either side.

Lurgan Town started the second-half quickly and on the front foot. Two quick fire goals within the opening five minutes from striker Hylands ended the game as a contest. His second goal was a delightful chip from 15 yards, which made it five goals in the last three games for the striker.

The remainder of the second-half saw Lurgan create few clear cut chances as Noah Binks and Elias O’Neill tested the Dungannon keeper and Hylands saw a left foot drive fly just over late in the game.

A solid performance from the back four and goalkeeper Jack Hollis gave Lurgan their first clean sheet in five matches.

Next up for the U14’s is Annagh United.
