A 26-year-old man has appeared in court accused of assaulting an officer and thereby occasioning him actual bodily harm.

Ryan George Silcock, of Laurelgrove Avenue, Belfast, appeared at Craigavon Courthouse sitting on Friday, December 23 for the purposes of a preliminary enquiry – the legal process during which a case is referred to the higher court.

The defendant is further accused of possessing an offensive weapon, namely a bottle, with intent to commit grievous bodily harm, as well as resisting police, assault on police and two charges of criminal damage.

All the offences are alleged to have taken place on July 11 last year.

Prosecution submitted that based on the papers before the court there was a prima facie case to answer.

Defence counsel made no contrary submissions.

District Judge Trevor Brown, satisfied there was a prima facie case to answer, released Silcock on continuing bail to appear for arraignment at Craigavon Crown Court on February 7 next year.
